A logo is defined as a graphic element, symbol, or icon of a trademark or brand which is uniquely arranged in a specific way in creating an attractive incentive that the viewer can identify with. The logo is significant to the brand or entity and the shapes, colors, fonts, and images are most often different from those held in a similar market. They may also be used to identify with specific organizations with no economical relation (answer.com).

There are three basic types of logo design. These include: illustrative, graphic, and font or text based. One of the things to consider before choosing your design type is expense. If you’re associated with a low budget company you may decide that the extra expense incurred with more detailed design options, may not be appropriate for you. Another factor is in deciding how each form would benefit the company. One may over compensate for the message you’re trying to send consumers.

 

Logos are purposely created with uniqueness to avoid confusion in the market place among users, suppliers, affiliates, clients, and the general public. Once a business or organization has created a design they then protect it by registering it as their trademark. This prevents unauthorized third parties from using it. Every designer is unique in their process. While some may start with thumbnail sketches others may be more in tune with working with shapes and color on the computer. No matter the technique the idea is to develop a unique concept which catches they eye of the consumer.

Often slogans are included in the logo. A brand slogan is also referred to as a claim, tagline, or endline. The main purpose for having a slogan is to identify the brand with the logo. The conformation of a company is its logo or brand. It’s counterproductive to redesign logos often due to the fact that they are used for company recognition.

It’s all about the balance. The factors involved in design determine how to utilize its elements. It’s been said that there are four specific principles: balance, emphasis, rhythm, and unity. The most significant of these is balance. It defines an equal distribution and without it, the rest will be ill proportioned. Symmetrical balance may suggest strength and stability. Asymmetrical on the other hand, may suggest contrast. The combined efforts of the two represent confidence. This is what your logo needs to express in order to be successful to the market. There are many resources available online to educate a new designer. It is more beneficial of course to leave your design to the pros. However, should your budget be at an extreme limit you may provide an essential logo by utilizing the skills you’ll call to mind from the resources available.
